Development activities and maritime engineering works on Haa Alifu Maarandhoo continue as the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development advances key island development projects.

The government signed formal agreements with state enterprise Maldives Transport and Contracting Company to execute essential maritime expansion and coastal mitigation works across the island. Under the established terms, specialized project teams are undertaking extensive physical works, including the construction of a three hundred and twelve meter rock low crested breakwater alongside a one hundred and eighty meter rock groyne designed to stabilize the shoreline and safeguard the island harbor against severe wave action and tidal erosion. The ongoing infrastructure initiatives form part of a broader government program aimed at modernizing local maritime facilities, upgrading harbor basins, and enhancing economic connectivity across northern inhabited islands.

Project supervisors and local council authorities continue to coordinate site preparations, heavy machinery deployment, and material transport to ensure smooth execution of the planned engineering phases. Upon completion, the upgraded harbor and coastal protection structures will significantly improve vessel berthing safety, reduce long term erosion along vulnerable stretches of the island, and facilitate safer sea transport operations for residents and commercial logistics operators throughout the northern region.
