MTCC had commenced the ashpalt paving works for segment 1 of Ameenee magu

Following a delay caused by severe weather, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) began laying asphalt on the section of Ameenee Magu between the Voice of Maldives offices and Dharumavantha Hospital, which has been closed since late June. MTCC was awarded the re-development project earlier this year to repair extensive potholes and defects that made the road unsafe for motorists. Ameenee Magu was previously redeveloped in phases by the Road Development Corporation starting in July 2022 under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, wrapping up in 2024. The road required further repairs last year due to recurring damage. The initial MVR 84 million redevelopment project faced widespread criticism over allegations of inflated costs and the use of low-quality materials.
