The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued an urgent nationwide weather advisory, warning residents of torrential rainfall, squalls, and potential flooding across the country throughout the upcoming Republic Day holiday period.
National weather authorities confirmed that adverse atmospheric conditions will persist nationwide, predicting widespread rainfall, isolated heavy thunderstorms, and localized sea swells. Forecasters warned that wind speeds are expected to intensify significantly during squalls, with gusts reaching up to thirty five miles per hour, generating turbulent maritime conditions and wave heights ranging between two and five feet. Official warnings highlight that low lying administrative islands and densely populated urban centers remain particularly vulnerable to urban street flooding and water intrusion into residential properties.
Disaster management authorities and emergency response agencies have advised the general public, domestic sea travelers, and island councils to take precautionary measures to safeguard private property and stay updated through official meteorological bulletins until weather patterns stabilize.
